The history of Omega watches

The first Omega watch, a model we offer, was produced in 1848 under the name Louis Brandt. Its namesake was the founder of the brand that would later be called Omega.

The brand’s first success was in 1894, with a watch that instantly became a worldwide hit. What made this watch a hit? A completely new type of dial was known as the Omega calibre. It was after this success that the brand name was changed to the iconic Omega and that the brand was officially registered.

Legendary status

Legendary is the perfect word to describe the excellent performances that watches from this brand have delivered over the years. The outstanding watch quality led to these pieces being involved in many notable global events.

To celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the first Omega watch, a special dial was developed, leading to the Omega Seamaster. This watch was the first diving watch and is still regarded as the best possible product for professional divers. Moonwatch Speedmaster

Omega broadened its portfolio in 1957 by creating the Speedmaster. What set this watch apart was its ability to withstand extensive NASA tests for use in space. In 1965 Omega has crowned the winner of these tests and Omega watches were given the privilege of being used in space. During the first moon landing in 1969, Buzz Aldrin set his first steps on the moon whilst wearing an Omega Speedmaster Professional. As Lance Armstrong wore no watch, the Speedmaster became the first watch on the moon.

Timekeeper for the Olympic Games

Precision, craftsmanship and reliability made Omega the logical choice for another legendary feat: Being the official timekeepers’ brand for the Olympic Games from the year 1938 onwards.

They kept this title until 2016.
